I attended the smithtown district wide drug conference last nite, and I must admitt this was an eye opening experience. The panel of experts were well informed and brought all aspects of this problem to the forefront. I believe the district should continue to hold these conferences for parents who may not have been able to attend. The community appears outraged and motivated to do something about this horrible social problem.

I also attended the parent university drug conference and whilst it was educational and most definately eye opening why are'nt these forums openeds to the students? I would think hearing first hand some of the horror stories from parents that have been through drug addiction would discourage some kids from that first experiment.

I too attended the partent university. It was very informative. I believe a gentlemen in the audience wanted to be notified if there were dealings on the streets in our area (ie. Brooksite arrests) as we were notified regarding sex offenders. His question was shot down a bit, and I feel that although you cannot give names etc and I know the process is long once a child is caught, all we want to know as parents is a simple notification on the website noting where and when maybe a drug transaction or drug related incident happened, so as a parent, we are aware of what is going on so we can either let our children know and also keep an eye out as to where we don't want our children to be. Very simple. Also I very much agree that this talk should be given to our children. Possibly twice, once before going into high school and maybe once again during their high school career. They need to hear this from people that were on the panel. I strongly feel this way. Thank you.
